The extra evening hour of DST means more shopping. Research shows shopping drops off when the sun goes down. Brick and mortar stores are already at a disadvantage compared to online stores such as Amazon, and giving people an extra hour of shopping after school or work is a benefit to those stores. JP Morgan Chase found there is a drop in economic activity of 2.2 to 4.9 percent when the clocks turn back in the fall.
